We had a discussion on this topic, here:

PowerBASIC Forum

Let me explain, what happens if a new user registers to the forum.

The new user maybe want to download something, and he registers in the forum.
The Global Admins receive an e-mail mesage that says:

QuoteUser XY has just signed up as a new member of your forum.
Click the link below to view their profile.

  • The first thing we do, is to check if the User has given a full, real name.
  • Then we verify the e-mailadress and the IP Adress, to be sure its not a spammer.
  • Finally we could click the Link in the e-mail and approve the account. If we do this, the whole thing is done in less then a minute, but there will NOT be an approval notification e-mail be sent to this user. While the account is approved, the person never knows.
  • The other option is to explicitly tell the SMF-System to "approve and sent e-mail". This may take a bit longer, but we decided to use this feature for future registrations.

As there may be users out there still waiting for their approval notification,
I sent a short newsletter to all Forum Users today.

Future registrations will be sent an e-mail notification that the account has been approved.
