While speaking or writing about a compiler, I think the best way for a lurker to make his own opinion is to try an application written with it.

For example you can try one of the latest GDImage demo here

Patrice,

What percent of your example is PowerBasic code and what percent is API / libraries? I'm sure this same example would port to FreeBasic and HotBasic without a lot of effort.

If you can generate this kind of quality software in PowerBasic effectively then it speaks well for the compiler. Wasn't it Michael that said it's the artist not the brush?

You are right, I could write the same in C or C++ or anything else, but after spending some time with VISUAL STUDIO, if found myself always more comfortable with the PowerBASIC syntax, because BASIC is like my mother's language  :)

The demo project has been updated with a new zip file attached to the first post of this thread.

I made a few changes in zSkin.inc to enhance the building of the region on the fly when resizing the window.

I also fixed the cumulative alpha channel effect occuring in case of multiple color settings.

Added also two new backgrounds.

Here is another screen shot showing you the full composited mode in action on VISTA Premium.

Note: the progressive white opacity being used under the translucent image shown with a rotation of 322°.

I'd like to see a Visual Designer for this. :-)

I'm looking to program a simple touch screen application. Outside of PowerBASIC, what was used to give the sparkle to Panther?
