I have downloaded and installed the Windows 8 consumer preview.

1 - You must be aware than once installed there is no way to unistall it easily.

2 - With my AMD Radeon HD 6700 M (updated with the new Windows 8 drivers)
I was unable to run any of my OpenGL applications

3 - I do not like the interface.

4 - Odering right now an HP recovery DVD (my backup didn't work) to perform a full reinstall of Windows 7,
and get rid of the W8 consumer preview.

Hello Patrice Terrier
you just have to install it in another partition, then there is no problem then it can also remove them if you like! With the EeasyBCD is then easily
Warning: Only an upgrade instalation!
greetings Peter

Indeed what cause me the biggest problem is the lack of working OpenGL drivers for Windows 8, everything else i could live with, because this consumer preview is not installed on my main computer ;)

Hi Patrice,

did you get this drivers for your Radeon, it mentions OpenGL support:

Eros tested ThinBASIC scripts using TBGL module (based internally on OpenGL, written in PB using José's headers) and it run fine. I think he has NVIDIA GPU.

Had no problems with my NVIDIA Card with Win 8.
However the Sound-OnBoard Chipset-Driver was not available.

The Metro interface shouldn't be the default, when running on a standard PC without touch screen.

If Microsoft doesn't change this, that would be a big flop, especially for those using a PC for professionnal purpose.

We are not all geek, and a PC is not a smartphone.  >:(

The Preview does not come with any OpenGL drivers, so you have to use the Windows 7 drivers for your video. Install the proper drivers and OpenGL works fine.

As far as installing, I found it better to do one of two things:

(1) On my Tablet I shrunk the WIndows 7 partion, created a new one and installed Windows 8 to the second partion. Now I have a dual booting system which works great. I have both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

(2) On my desktop I simply installed a second harddrive and installed Windows 8 to it. I can control which drive I boot from , so again I have both OS's.

Windows 8 really shines when you have touch. On my tablet it is fun.

There are some downsides to Windows 8 though (betanews should post soon my article about Windows 8).

I did try to install the Windows 7 ATI drivers on Windows 8, and as far as OpenGL is concerned they do not work.

Many users are likely to be baffled by the Metro-style, as it introduces a completly different way of working

I for myself, i do not care of Store, Xbox companion, Games, SkyDrive, Maps, Calendar, Video, Music, Camera, Pictures.
Indeed none of these gadgets are useful to me, and the worst is the time i waste switching from Metro to the Destktop, having to move my mouse at the correct corner location, just to be able to display the fundamentals of Windows 7.

How a touch screen interface could be useful with a standard mouse and keyboard, my PC is not a tablet one!!!

Have to correct myself.
We have tried to play some games (Demolition Company, SWAT 4 etc.) on the Window 8 yesterday, without any success. No game runs.

The i went on the NVIDIA Site where there is an driver for Windows 8 available.
I downloaded this driver then something happened.

The Windows 8 says "This file was marked as dangerouse" or something like that and wanted to delete the file by itself.

Then i re-downloaded the file, got the setup of the driver even to start, but then it said "ZIP-Error". And that was it.

Win 8 - at this time seems not ready for gaming.

Today the Win 8 installed the NVIDFIA driver without problems. Now gaming is possible.
Still VIA has no working Chipset/Sounddrivers for my Mainbard.
