Title: Windows 8 - customer previw. First impressions?
Post by: Theo Gottwald on March 04, 2012, 08:25:40 AM
I have just installed the WIn 8 CP on a PC. Here are some first impressions.

The desktop is still there, and it has real rectangular (not more the rounded) windows.
They have all a small shadow to all 4 sides, but looks like thes have reduced some useless gimmicks.
And this makes things run fster, and possibly use less resources (round corners use graphical resources).

Funny: I could log in to my windows using my hotmail-password. Just asking myself how i would have logged in, if the hotmail-server would not have liked me  :D.

My first impression from the desktop is good so far because it looks more clear and less toy-like the Windows 7.

Here the impression is good too.

I've made some tests with thinBasic and all is working fine: lnaguage itself, IDE (thinAir), Debugger (thinDebug), Module Libraries

To me Windows 8 will be a great OS.

I just order an HP DVD recovery to reinstall Windows 7

I couldn't see any benefit using it with a classic laptop.

I couldn't say with a tablet and a touch screen, but anyway i hate to see finger prints on my screen.

I'd prefer it before win 7 because the surface looked more clear to me and seemed to be faster.

QuoteWARNING

The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver of
your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your AMD graphics
driver, or enable your AMD adapter using the Displays Manager.

Even after downloading the latest graphics diver, i keep getting this message, i spent 6 hours on this problem.
And i couldn't run any of my OpenGL code.

I think i did a big mistake installing this preview, and now i have to pay € 38 just to get a full Windows 7 re-install DVD from HP.

Conclusion: you better have to wait for the official release if you don't want to get into trouble like myself.

My plan is to keep a good, solid ruler handy for rapping anyone's knuckles who attempts to smear my screen with their greasy fingers! ;D
