Post by: Theo Gottwald on September 10, 2007, 04:51:56 PM
Does anyone here have experiences about making Podcasts and YouTube Videos?

Is there Freeware usable for this purpose or is commercial software neede.

And what are your recommendations?

Theo, here is a good start for you tube:
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/topic.py?topic=10521

Here is a video on what you need to podcast:

Here is another good link for videocasting:
http://makeinternettv.org/

If you want to record your computer screen while you make a tutorial about an application or process, I highly recommend:
http://www.camstudio.org/   this is freeware
also download the lossless codec from the site.
Record your desktop set at a resolution of 800x600, 10 frames per second should be fast enough.
When finished, use virtual dub to make any edits http://www.virtualdub.org/   this is freeware
then make the final release video encoded with the xvid codec, it will output at 800x600 and look incredible for the files size.
http://www.xvid.org/    this is freeware

Here is a video tutorial about making desktop captures. He does cover the expensive programs and lower cost ones:

There are plenty of nice freeware very good programs that you can use.
Let me know of any other questions that might come up, there is a lot to go through in the above, but it will give you a good idea.
If not, ask away will be glad to help!
