Today i got a message from Amazon that they started to ship windows 8.
An sinple Upgrade was only about 54 EUR.

Today Microsoft hurries to announce that "there will be no SP 2 for Windows 7" to motivate people to go for windows 8.
My impression is that anyway most companies and private people anyway seem to rather ignore windows 8.

Yet from now professional software makers will have to take windows 8 into account, and have their program be compatible with windows 8.

For example i have a program that was made using the Fire Fly Visual Designer (using a Listview) and it crashed under Windows 8 Preview.
Lets see how stable things will work when the final "Test-Windows" will arrive.

They will have to pay me much more than 54 $ to install it :)

Good. This means that Windows 7 will be stable. There are always problems after installling a service pack.

Any news about Windows 9?

With Windows 8, that will be the first time that i will make the impass to upgrade to the new OS.
At least, as long as they don't aknowledge that a PC is not a tablet, and won't let me select the way i want to use my computer (mouse and keyboard, instead of touch screen), altogether with the Start menu instead of this hiddeous Metro interface.

I also hate to see greasy fingers on my screen.  >:(

You can choose.
Desktop is always there and you you can go just 100% desktop application only

Personally I like Windows 8 very much

I found Windows 8 professionnal more usable, with a dual screen, using the metro style on one of them and the desktop style on the other one.

I have installed the "Sourceforge Classic Shell" to make it even usable for my taste.
So i have a nice start-menu.

Without that it looked unusable for me.

Let me add, that you can use the cheap UPGRADE and install it over the FREE Customer Preview if you want to save 50 Bucks ...
At least i did that and it worked fine.

Interesting, on my old (3yrs HP 4GB RAM) laptop, VS10 loads considerably quicker under Win8 than Win 7. It seems, even though it has the overhead of an extra shell that it uses less resources than Win7. ("Finger interface" should really be disabled automatically if no touchpad/screen is detected)  However, I do think that the interface will open lots of opportunities for new applications for tablets.

Instead of the "sourceforge classic shell", i would suggest Start8 from stardock for the small amount of $5.

Patrice, i do not see why he takes $5 for this program.
It doesn't do anything more then the freeware.
From what i see its even partly beta.
